 We
are a small maine coon cattery, located in Nove Sedlice in Czech Republic,
near Opava (approximately 15 kilometers from the polish border). Currently
our family consists of 6 members. My name is Silvie and I’m a veterinary
surgeon. My husband Martin is a chemist.
Our Maine Coon, she - cat Schangha Nee
and Bee Noo, cat Armani and dog Legolas are
living with us.
Maine coon cats have fascinated us for a very long time- even before 1989,
when in the Czech Republic there were breed only Persian, British, and a
few short-hair cat representatives. Apparently, we found some information
about these cats in the literature, but it cost us a lot of effort.
The first main coon we’ve ever seen was one in our imagination, because
barely could we find any written information about them in our books, not
mentioning a total lack of their photos. That’s why, at the very beginning,
we focused only on the breed characteristics. We saw the real main coon
cat for the first time in a foreign magazine. It appeared to be one of
ours biggest dreams to have this “cat with raccoon tail”.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the proper time. Although, in Czech Republic
there occurred first cats of this awesome kind we weren’t able to fulfill
our desires. Not only were we young but we also lived in ours parents
houses, we were studying…
 Two
years ago there was a change. We bought a small cottage, which we still
step by step recondition. We also started looking for the animals for our
family. Apparently breed of the cats was chosen long time ago, but as far
as the dog was concerned we weren’t so certain.
We made up our mind in Ostrava, at the dog exhibition
- that it must be a hovawart. At the same time we wanted to buy a pup and small cat, so that
they could get used to each other.
We bought a dog choosing from about 30 breeders, found in the local ads.
When it came to choose a cat, things got worse. Our demands were very high…
As far as the dog was concerned, we knew it should be fallow, female
should be black - and it would be great if it was tiger-like striped. So in
April Legolas - ours Hovawart puppy
- turned up in our house. But we were
still looking for a female cat … We started our quest from the Czech
breeders. There were a few of them and unfortunately, we couldn’t find
desired colour or there were no she-cats. Some of the breeders offered
cats without pedigree or in outrageous price. Some of the breeders first
told that they had possessed one with the pedigree, which then appeared
not to be truth. We’ve decided not to mention these breedings’ names, just
to avoid advertising them, especially because of the fact that some were
really unpleasant. We were very disappointed, but we decided not to
surrender and keep on searching… and finally we succeeded!
 After
failure in Czech Republic we started seeking among foreign catteries in
the Internet. We came across a Polish one, named Furby Dream
*PL, where we
found female we were looking for. Almost immediately we felt in love with
our small lady which we named Shangha Nee. Instantly we wrote an e-mail to
Poland. To my astonishment, the same day they called back, namely Justyna
Sola-Stanczyk, who invited us to her place. We left at the day of my
birthday, 13th of July 2002. We went there only to see the cats, but we
come back home with our Shanghy. Thanks to Martin it was the best birthday
gift I had ever had. We also made new friendship - Justyna and
Pawel are
now our sincere friends. We also met the proprietress of the cattery
Belmicoon *PL and cat EC Belmondo
- father of our female. We left from
Poland very happy, because of the fact that we had our desired cat. |
