Legolas
is our Hovawart dog. He was born on 28th February 2002 Malsovice near
Decin in the Czech Republic (near the German border). He came from the 10
puppies litter. We looked for a dog in a fawn colour but at that time
there were no fawn puppies. When we reached Malsovice and we saw “doggy
group” with their mother, we wanted to take all the puppies. We liked
Legolas from the first sight, but he didn’t feel the same. When we gave
him a toy, that we brought with us, he pushed it away with anger and went
to sleep. When we wanted to watch him and play with him, he ran away to
his kennel. We could easily see that he just doesn’t want to have anything
in common with us. Although he didn’t want it very much, we took him with
us. It is incredible that from a small ball weighing 5 kg, grew up a dog
weighing 45 kg.
Legolas is a type of dog that lets his owners sleep in the morning- except
the situation when he joins Shangha. In that case we just have to get up.
What
we like about him very much is a fact, that when he gests bored of this
running in the garden, he comes to the door and with wild knocking
announces that he wants to be let into the house. He likes being caressed.
He comes to us and lays his head on our knees and wants us to stroke on
it. He also likes watching TV. He does it in a very characteristic way- he
places his butt on the sofa bed, his front paws on the floor with his
muzzle on the coffee table. He likes watching horses most
- not only in TV
but also in the real life. When he sees them he squeals and licks the
screen. That’s why we can’t watch Velka
Pardubicka on TV! He likes also
other animals and sport programmers. His favourite activities are long
walks, especially with companion of ours’ friends two girls: Nessa and
Chutina - big black shnauzers. We also have to mention beagle Gino
- Legolas
spends a lot of time with him.

As a regular hovawart, he loves water. He doesn’t ommit a s single puddle.
He must walk into it. He is very happy when he has occasion to swim. And
it doesn’t matter if it is heat or the frost outside. Maybe he could swim
in 5 degrees below zero. He swims in a large range of locations: ponds,
rivers or bays of the streams. When it is summer, we obligatorily have to
take out basin in our garden and fill it with water. He is very willing to
fetching, especially when he has to go into water. Unfortunately, once he
starts, he doesn’t know where to end.
He likes guests in our house. He would like everybody demonstrate interest
in him and to stroke on him. When somebody omits this ritual, Legolas
doesn’t stop pastering him until he or she surrenders. We have to mention
one more specific feature of him. Shangy has brushes on her ears
- Legolas
loves to lick them. That’s the way he is.
